Members of LCDA Board Honored to Present at NCDA

        Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Members of the 2010-2011 LCDA Executive Board were invited to present a half-day intensive Professional Development Institute workshop at the National Career Development Association Conference in San Antonio in June.  We selected the topic “Tools of the Trade: New, Tried and True, and Just for You,” grouped according to Donald Super’s career developmental stages and began our research 6 months in advance.  Imagine our surprise when we discovered, just 3 weeks before the conference, that our registrants were truly an international audience with 2 attendees from Australia, 2 from Japan, 2 from Alaska and the rest from across the remaining states, and among them mostly seasoned professionals including many directors of career services!  We were delighted that our research, coordination of our sections of the presentation, and “dressed rehearsals” paid off, as we received exceptional evaluations and countless positive comments as we bumped into our participants throughout the rest of the conference.

Of course, since we wanted our audience to enjoy a little flavor of Louisiana, our door prizes included not only relevant career resources, but also a River Road Cookbook and several other Mardi Gras themed giveaways to help our participants take a little Louisiana culture home with them.

What we took away from this experience was the fun of meeting and exchanging ideas with new acquaintances in our field, but also an amazing sense of satisfaction based on sharing our research and expertise with so many from across the globe.  We encourage you, our LCDA members, to take the opportunity to contribute to our profession from your area of expertise.  Through LCA, LCDA, ACA and NCDA conference presentations, LCDA newsletter articles, or contributing your ideas to the LCDA leadership to enhance our organization, you will be adding to our body of knowledge and helping your colleagues grow as professionals in the exciting field of career development.

        A Successful Spring for LCDA!
        Friday, 08 April 2011

A brief word of congratulations on a successful spring conference from LCDA
President, Joan Gallagher ... "First, I would like to thank all of you for your
wonderful teamwork in putting on a first rate Spring Conference.  Everything
went beautifully from the nice location, organized check-in, delicious food,
successful service project, and most of all the wide range of interesting topics
and terrific speakers.  Drum roll for you, Angela!!!  Congratulations for your
super organizational skills and extensive planning.  I honestly believe this was
        our best conference yet!"

In regards to the partnership between LCA and the ACA convention held in New
Orleans, Joan said, "And perhaps you did not know…Ron Cathy coordinated the NCDA
“Day of Service” service project done on March 24 in conjunction with the ACA
conference in New Orleans.  Three sites, all associated with Catholic
Charities/Archdiocese of New Orleans, were selected and our members were able to
assist many people of New Orleans in rebuilding hope, envisioning their futures,
and polishing their job search skills.  Hats off to Ron for leading this “giving
back” event for our national association.  All the best and thanks again for all
your hard work and willingness to go over the top.  You are amazing!"

Keep up the great work LCDA members.  You are making a difference!

        LCDA Logo Contest Winner
        Wednesday, 08 December 2010

During the month of November numerous students across the state of Louisiana
participated in LCDA's logo design contest.  The contest was intended to further
advocate National Career Development Month as well as encourage students to
obtain valuable experience benefiting their academic endeavors.  The winner
received $100 as well as invaluable experience creating a brand for a state
organization.   While all the entries were exceptional, the design below will
now serve as the official logo for the Louisiana Career Development Association.

Congratulations to our winner and thanks to those students who
        participated!

        LCDA Logo Contest
        Wednesday, 17 November 2010

The Louisiana Career Development Association is hosting a Logo Contest in an
effort to create a new logo that will simply and professionally represent our
organization.   Requests for entries have been made to current college students
in Louisiana.  The winning logo will be displayed on both the state and national
web sites along with a $100 prize given to the designer.

Entries must be submitted in a JPEG or MS Publisher document and no more than
two entries will be accepted from an individual student.  Entries will be judged
on the basis of ability to succinctly convey in a professional manner a visual
representation that matches our organization's mission and goals.  Our
organization is excited not only to have a new logo, but to offer students the
ability to further develop their professional
        interests.
